Reclaimed Wood
From Heritage to Heirloom: The Art of Reclaimed Wood
There is a profound story hidden within every grain of old wood, waiting to be told once more. When a tree that has stood as a silent witness to your family’s history must finally come down, its journey doesn’t have to end at the woodpile. My reclaimed wood services are dedicated to the philosophy of "honoring the harvest." I believe that preserving a tree you’ve nurtured or lived beside is the highest form of respect for nature. By transforming that raw timber into a functional piece of art, we ensure that its legacy continues to live inside your home rather than fading away.

The beauty of reclamation isn't limited to massive trunks or structural beams. I find inspiration in the smallest fragments of the natural world, including the intricate geometry of pine cones and small knots. Through specialized casting and turning techniques, even these delicate items can be preserved in resin or integrated into larger works, creating stunning conversational pieces that capture the essence of the forest. Whether it is a fallen branch from a childhood climbing tree or a collection of cones from a favorite grove, these small tokens of nature can be immortalized into something truly extraordinary.

If you have an object or a piece of timber that has lost its original utility but holds a wealth of memories, I invite you to explore the possibilities of a custom conversion. Perhaps you have an old barn beam, a decommissioned piece of furniture, or a fresh-cut log from a recent clearing; these are not just "scraps," but the raw materials for your next heirloom. I work closely with you to assess the character of the material and determine the best way to bring its inner beauty to the surface, turning the "old" into something breathtakingly "new."

The Collaborative Journey: From Vision to Finished Piece
The process of reclaiming wood is a true partnership, and I welcome you to contact me the moment an idea takes root. I believe that when you entrust me with a piece of your history, you should be connected to the project from start to finish. Throughout the transformation, I share regular progress updates and photographs, ensuring you are a part of the creative journey as the wood reveals its hidden character. Our collaboration begins with an initial conversation to explore your thoughts and ideas, allowing us to discuss what is possible and how we can best honor the material.

To get started, I ask that you provide clear pictures and the dimensions of the material you have in mind. If we find that the project has potential, the next step involves sending the wood to me for a final, hands-on evaluation. While this initial shipping is at the customer’s expense, I am always happy to discuss shipping options and logistics to make the process as smooth as possible. My priority is the integrity of your material; if I determine that I cannot proceed with the project after a physical inspection, I will return the wood to you at my own expense. I will never "sacrifice" or risk your sentimental material just for the sake of an attempt—if I don't genuinely believe I can achieve a beautiful result, I will tell you so directly.

Working with reclaimed or raw wood is an art of discovery, and it is important to remember that there are no absolute guarantees. The secrets hidden beneath the surface, cracks, rot, or structural shifts, often don't reveal themselves until the tools meet the grain. Because of this, the project may need to be adapted or even canceled if the material proves unstable. Should a technique need to change or a design require modification as we "get down to it," I will always have a conversation with you first. No changes are made without your approval, ensuring the final piece remains something you truly love. Once the transformation is complete and the piece is ready for its new home, I will cover the cost of shipping the finished work back to you.
